Meet the Leadership Team: Stephanie Romero-McFadden

08/06/24

“Who are you and what are you doing here?” is a time-honored question at Action for Children that reflects our culture of curiosity and passion for what we do. To get to know the team that’s driving the work forward at Action for Children, we’re turning the question around on our Leadership Team!

Who are you and what are you doing here?

As Action for Children’s Finance Director, I’m tasked with crafting and implementing our organization’s financial strategy, ensuring transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance. Simultaneously, I support program managers in leveraging funds effectively and making informed decisions, fostering collaboration between departments. By prioritizing fiscal well-being, optimizing resource utilization, and offering guidance, I uphold our financial integrity and drive sustainable growth, fostering a culture of trust and partnership within the organization.

How did you get here?

With a Bachelor’s in Finance, Marketing, and Professional Sales from Florida State University, and a Master’s in Risk Management and Insurance earned in 2020, I’ve dedicated my career to the nonprofit sector. Starting as the Operations Finance Manager at United Way of Big Bend in Tallahassee, I then moved to North Carolina, assisting professors with grants. Eventually, I settled in Columbus, Ohio, as Accounting Manager at United Way of Central Ohio before becoming the Finance Director at Action for Children. Each step has been fulfilling, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a difference.

What excites you about your role?

I love my role in the finance department because it aligns with my passion for working with numbers and collaborating with others. Forecasting, budgeting, and assisting colleagues with financial decisions are all aspects I find engaging and enjoyable. What makes my job truly unique and fulfilling is the opportunity to work with all departments, learning about their financial needs and program objectives simultaneously.

What do you want people to know about Action for Children?
