Meet the Leadership Team: Kara Durand

08/13/24

“Who are you and what are you doing here?” is a time-honored question at Action for Children that reflects our culture of curiosity and passion for what we do. To get to know the team that’s driving the work forward at Action for Children, we’re turning the question around on our Leadership Team!

Who are you and what are you doing here?

As the Human Resources Administrator, I handle all aspects of human resources management within the organization. This includes tasks such as recruiting and hiring new staff, managing employee benefits and payroll, handling employee relations issues, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations, and developing HR policies and procedures. I also play a key role in fostering a positive and inclusive work environment, supporting employee development and well-being, and aligning HR practices with the organization’s mission and values.

How did you get here?

Despite being unsure of my career path in college, I discovered a passion for Human Resources and have been dedicated to it ever since! My journey began at a local non-profit organization that served individuals with mental illnesses and addiction disorders. After earning my master’s degree in HR, I sought new opportunities to grow and was fortunate to find my place at Action for Children.

What excites you about your role?

Working in HR can be challenging, but at Action for Children, I feel empowered to make a meaningful impact on the organization. I take pride in implementing positive changes that significantly improve our employees’ lives.

What do you want people to know about Action for Children?

I want people to recognize the significant impact that Action for Children has on the community. Action for Children offers so many positive contributions beyond just child care referrals, and I am eager to show people the full scope of what we do!
