Position Description:

Teacher has ultimate responsibility for the effective daily operation of the classroom while fostering an environment, which supports a professional and collaborative work setting. The Teacher establishes the coordination of planning of weekly curriculum, daily lessons/experience, and educational programming within the framework of the school philosophy. The incumbent plans and implements research within the classrooms and overall program as well as, conducts and assures completion of child/program assessments within allocated time frames. With the other classrooms teachers, the Teacher sets goals and makes classroom adjustments accordingly within regards to child data and research outcomes. The incumbent coordinates classroom schedules, supervises/mentors co-teachers, school aides, interns, student assistants and provides coaching sessions as needed in conjunction with the Vice Principal.

Teacher updates documentation of development and lessons, both inside and outside of the classroom quarterly and gains insight from co-teachers to accomplish. The incumbent participates in staff meetings and serves as the classroom or school representative on department, college, university and community committees/projects as needed. Teacher oversees conferences with families and produces assessment reports/documentation for families. Teacher attends ongoing professional development programs, updates and maintains Child Plus database for classroom, and adheres to all licensing and Step-Up to Quality requirements. Finally, the Teacher adheres to and implements the Head Start Performance Standards and reporting requirement, adheres to and implements the Child and Adult Care Food program (CACFP) standards and reporting requirement, and plans scheduling within the classroom for planned or unplanned days off by other staff in conjunction with the Vice Principal.

65% Models and coaches others on evidence-based practices in EHE demonstration school. Establishes the coordination of planning of weekly curriculum, daily lessons/experiences, and educational programming within the framework of the model demonstration school; sets goals and makes classroom adjustments accordingly within regards to child data and research outcomes. Coordinates classroom schedules

25% Provides on-site coaching and mentoring to university graduate/undergraduate students’ educational placements in the model demonstration school. Supports diverse families and children in the model demonstration school through a relationship-based model that supports school readiness skills, creative environments that are inclusive and culturally and linguistically responsive and models best practices for early care and education.

10% Knowledgeable about and adheres to local, state and federal grant and enrollment pathway requirements and state licensing laws, rules and regulations.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in educa-early & middle childhood Additional Education

Desired

Master’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required training and certification: All employees are required to complete and maintain certification in first aid/communicable disease, infant/child CPR, child abuse recognition training, and any other DCY mandated training. Reliable transportation, required; requires successful completion of reference and background check(s).
