Choosing Childcare

As parents, choosing child care can be one of the most important and most difficult tasks we undertake. Knowing in advance that it is not an overnight process makes it a bit easier to tackle.  Action For Children’s job is to provide tools and resources that will help you feel confident with the decisions you make.

In many ways, your child’s caregiver will be your partner in your child’s early education.  Children develop most rapidly from birth to about
eight years of age, with the most accelerated development occurring in infancy. These are known as  the early learning years. The quality of
care a child receives during these years can impact his or her
success in school and life.

In this section, you will find resources to help you as you begin your
child care search.  Take the time now to prepare. Identify your personal needs and the needs you want fulfilled for your child. We will help you determine what to look for in quality early care and education and
outline the questions you will want to ask potential caregivers.

Action for Children respects the richness of diversity and supports programs and services that meet the varied needs of diverse segments of the central Ohio community.

Action for Children maintains a policy of confidentiality regarding all data supplied by individuals requesting child care and early learning resources and services.   Information is used internally in providing resource and referral services.  Aggregate data and non-identifying information may be shared for reporting purposes and supply and demand requests.  No personal information is shared.

Action for Children is not a regulatory agency, but it does believe in the importance of supporting the quality of child care and early learning by maintaining an effective system for documenting and responding to complaints.  The agency will accept complaints in oral or written form from parents or other concerned individuals about the agency's services and staff, and licensed, certified or unregulated child care.  The staff wil help the complainant follow appropriate next-step procedures.  Complaints will be recorded and handled in a confidential manner.

If you have questions or concerns about what is appropriate in an early care and education environment, or if you would like to speak personally with someone about your needs or concerns, please call one of our resource specialists at 614/224-0222.
